Everybody loves R2

It’s true. The ‘bot everyone adores in the Star Wars saga is R2D2.

It’s OK. You can’t resist it. It’s more powerful than the Force. It was designed that way, by a smart bunch of designers and engineers, or at least it was well-imagined by George Lucas.

And what does R2D2 love?

No, not you. How could he? After all, R2 doesn’t even know you.

But what R2 does know and love, are bots, social networking and Instgram. For him, connecting people through robotic powers is a storied part of his character. So much so, that it’s the stuff of legends and silver screens.

‘But wait! R2 Never had Instagram?’ you’re saying. Sure. Maybe that was true a long time in a galaxy far, far away. But in this day and age, with R2 just about everywhere, things are different. R2’s not only mobile. He’s also connected with always-on features, wi-fi and of course, bluetooth (though he rarely uses that unless it’s to impress friends with something other than his famous Universal Lock Pick Screwdriver).

In fact, R2D2 was one of the earlier social network mavens and image sharing gurus. He was quite literally a connecting point on the audio/visual intergalactic information superhighway, using nothing more than a simple holographic image and stereo (or THX?) audio recorder and projector.

And he didn’t need to use filters. It just had that certain attractive quality, no matter what angle he shot in, and regardless of the image size or how he tagged it in his database.

And boy, did he ever love sharing his data and posts with others, no matter how far apart they were.

It kept him so riveted to the subject, that he grew to thrive on how much people Liked him, gave him the ol’ digital Thumbs Up!, commented on his presentation, or shared him with others.

When the time was right, R2 knew he could no longer control the moment that interest in him would go viral. Fortunately, he’s learned quite a bit since those old days at Luke’s family farm on Tatooine. Nowadays, R2 is a master of social media. And here is a key lesson he learned, even with Princess Leia’s help, C3P0’s constant whining or Obi-Wan’s prompting.

What has grown at a faster rate than R2’s fans on Facebook and Twitter? The answer is Instagram. With 200,000,000 active monthly users in four years since it’s launching, the exponential growth of Instagram is undeniable. With such a rapidly expanding and popular social sharing platform, there are millions of reasons for your business to be posting photos, even if your business is blogging about bots and droids who are awfully cute and adorable.
